Store Management software
Countdown
As one of New Zealand’s two major grocery chains, Countdown tends to manage its design work in-house. In 2017, that changed, with the organisation building an outside team to create its new store management software. I was brought on as Design Lead.
I designed the software and consulted on UX and usability throughout the project. To ensure buy-in from different stakeholders, I prototyped the new software thoroughly, creating around 125 interactive prototype screens laying out style guides, behaviours and micro-interactions. Those prototypes served as a comprehensive guide for the developers at the time, and they’re now the go-to resource for staff.
The new software, which replaced several legacy systems, was implemented throughout the business, including the Countdown head office and 180+ stores across the country. Although the results can’t be shared, the project was a major success, and it’s still driving efficiency at Countdown today.
